Leading the future of steelmaking

Fortune CEO Alan Murray and Lourenco Goncalves, chairman, president, and CEO of Cleveland-Cliffs, discuss the company’s growth and commitment to sustainability and meeting market demand.

Despite the supply chain and manufacturing disruptions and clean energy pressures that have faced steelmakers over the past few years, Cleveland-Cliffs, the largest flat-rolled steel producer in North America, is leading the industry in making high-quality, sustainable, and technologically advanced steel. In 2021, the company acquired a major scrap producer, in 2022 it grew revenue by more than 10%, and this year it rose to No. 170 on the Fortune 500 list—all while beating its goal for carbon emissions reduction eight years ahead of schedule.

Cleveland-Cliffs’ fully-integrated operations are in the unique position to provide automakers with technologically-advanced steels for electric vehicle production. And Lourenco Goncalves, the company's chairman, president, and CEO, is confident that Cleveland-Cliffs will continue to outperform itself in the future.

In the video above, listen to Fortune CEO Alan Murray and Goncalves discuss how Cleveland-Cliffs is prioritizing sustainability, protecting jobs, and innovating to meet the evolving needs of its main market, the automotive industry.
